Committee-Municipal Law Practice
Municipal Law Practice Committee

The Municipal Law Practice Committee provides opportunity for sharing and exchange of information and learning opportunities for members who practice municipal law. The Committee adopts and undertakes related programs and services.

The Committee meets on the Third Thursday of each month at noon at the Bar Center.  This is bring your own lunch.

The meetings are informal and are meant to provide a friendly forum to discuss municipal issues.  Developer attorneys are welcome, even though not treated kindly. Our proudest accomplishment is in not spending any money proving that municipal lawyers are the most frugal of all lawyers.

The goals for the Committee in 2008 were to increase participation and the exchange of information.  Lack of participation continues to be a problem for this Committee. There are some active members, but many others do not regularly attend.  We have attempted to identify whether it was a scheduling issue or an interest issue, and the outcome is not clear.

I recommend that the committee continue to hold informal discussions, although a general agenda does seem to help peak interest. The committee has taken to meeting bi-monthly or quarterly.  A monthly meeting is not necessary.  The committee may also try some different dates and times in order to increase participation.

Stacey R. MacNeal
