"Get Blood From a Lawyer"
You know how it works! We feed you well! You get to visit with people you needed to call anyway. The York community, and possibly someone you know, receives your life saving donation.
The York County Bar Association, in conjunction with the York Hospital Blood Donor Center, conducts an annual blood drive usually at the end of April or the beginning of May. Members of the Bar Association, their immediate family members and staff are encouraged to take part. The entire process, from information intake to a gourmet food reward, takes about one hour. Donors are scheduled every 20 minutes beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m. Please Contact Us to learn of the next scheduled drive. Does it hurt to donate? Actually itís less painful than going to Court! When the needle is inserted the feeling is similar to a mild pinch and the whole process takes 6 to 7 minutes.
Will it make me sick or will I faint? Reactions rarely occur and if they do are minor. The best way to avoid problems is to remain calm, understand the donor procedure and eat your regularly scheduled meals before donating.
Will I have to limit my activities after donating? Not really, except to avoid lifting anything heavy with your donation arm for 4 hours, and strenuous exercise for 12 hours.
How do I know if I can give blood? You may donate if you are over 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in good health. Blood pressure will be checked prior to donation.
Will I become anemic after donating? No. The body begins replenishing the lost fluid and red cells immediately following your donation.
If something is wrong with my blood, will I find out? You would be notified confidentially if there are any problems found.
Can I eat before I donate? YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY eat before giving blood. Food will be served, but eating beforehand is strongly recommended.
How often may blood be donated? Every 56 days. Please remember that you can donate at the York Hospital Blood Donor Center in the name of the Bar at any time.
