Threat actors are all around us – they are increasingly using sophisticated tactics to constantly bombard attorneys, accountants, and financial advisors in pursuant of our confidential information. These tactics take a variety of forms, ranging from e-mail phishing scams and social engineering attacks to sophisticated technical exploits of networks, resulting in long term intrusions. While we still need to be concerned with lost or stolen laptops and devices, we also need to be aware of inside threats – including untrained or rushed personnel or even malicious actors within our ranks. These threats are a particular concern to professionals like attorneys, accountants, and financial advisors because of the sensitive nature of the information we have and the duties of competence in technology and confidentiality we may owe to our clients. This presentation will explore the most current threats and our collective duties to safeguard confidential information and will offer practical solutions on how to comply with these duties.
