Justice, Opportunity and Civility Committee
Recognizing the York County Bar’s commitment to the principles of justice, opportunity, and professional excellence, the Committee’s role is to support a welcoming, respectful, legal community in which all individuals are encouraged to participate and thrive based on merit, character, and capability.
Ethics and Professionalism
A lawyer, as a member of the legal profession, is a representative of clients, an officer of the legal system and a public citizen having a special responsibility for the quality of justice. A lawyer should strive to attain the highest level of skill, to improve the law and the legal profession and to exemplify the legal profession's ideals of public service.
Many of a lawyer's professional responsibilities are prescribed in the Rules of Professional Conduct, as well as substantive and procedural law.
The York County Bar Association in conjunction with the judges of the York County Court of Common Pleas also created a Code of Civility to develop standards of conduct in civility for all persons involved in the judicial system in York County.
All members of the YCBA must abide by the Code of Civility and PA Supreme Court Rules of Professional Conduct.
